Identifying Bed Bug Infestations

If you’re waking up with itchy spots you didn’t have when you went to sleep, you might be dealing with a bed bug infestation. They are small, elusive, and typically hide during the day, making them particularly challenging pests to eliminate. At Hirby Pest Control, we specialize in identifying and eradicating bed bugs, ensuring your home or business is free from these nighttime nuisances. Our expert team is trained to spot even the subtlest signs of bed bugs.

What Are Bed Bugs?

They are tiny insects that feed on blood. Although they are not known to transmit diseases, their bites can cause itching and discomfort, and their presence can lead to anxiety and sleepless nights. They can be identified by their reddish-brown color and oval shape, often hiding in mattress seams, box springs, bed frames, and nearby furniture. These pests are especially adept at evading detection, making professional intervention crucial.

Understanding Bed Bug Bites and Their Treatment

Bed bug bites are often the first sign of an infestation. These bites can appear as small, red, and sometimes swollen spots, typically in a line or cluster. They are notoriously itchy and can cause significant discomfort. At Hirby Pest Control, we not only focus on exterminating the pests but also on alleviating the symptoms of their bites through professional advice and support. Our goal is to ensure your comfort and health throughout the extermination process.

BED BUG SERVICE PREPARATION

CLIENT PRE-TREATMENT PREPARATION:

  • Remove all bed linens, pillowcases, bed pad, curtains, clothing, throw pillows, and furniture dressings.
  • Place in large trash bags or plastic tubs and seal – do this in the same room as to not transport any bed bugs to another room.
  • take washable items to laundry room or laundromat and wash in hot water above 120 degrees. Dry using the hottest dry cycle available and place in clean bags and seal. If you use plastic bins, be sure to clean the bins thoroughly before putting any items back in them. NEVER place clean items back in the used trash bags.
  • Empty floor closets, bed side tables and dresser drawers for inspection and treatment. As above, place items in clean trash bags or plastic bins.
If necessary, store cleaned items in an area not infected until after treatment.
Make room perimeter accessible for inspection and treatment.
  • Remove pictures, clocks, posters, or anything close to the bed

CLIENT POST TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Avoid entering home a minumum of 3 hours (6 if pregnant/medical condition)
    after treatment
  • Allow mattresses, box springs and bed frames to dry before reassembling room.
  • Do not bring used furniture, mattresses, box springs and or bed frames into treated areas. Any infested electronics must be discarded properly in dumpster, since no pesticide treatment is applied.
  • Encase mattress and box springs in a mattress cover after first treatment if possible.
Vacuum floors, mattresses, box springs, head board, dresser drawers, etc. upon re-entering the home.
  • Empty vacuum consistently and dispose properly.
